Sketchbook ideas, the best holiday souvenirs are things we find in nature.

My best holiday souvenirs are things we find in nature.

I love traveling and nowadays I think about it a lot, I make sure I do by placing souvenirs around in my home. When I travel far I most often bring back something I pick up from the ground. I will find a beautiful flower or I will pick up shells. In a metropolitan city, I will look for a stone. When I think about it, I have no idea when or why I started doing this. Probably from childhood when you have ideas like clover or a stone can bring you luck.

Anyway, here is an idea I have been doing in my sketchbook for some time now. I find my older treasures and souvenirs for inspiration for drawings. The nice thing about it is that I start to remember things from the journey that I thought I forgot. Photos can’t compete with these treasures that I have collected from all over the world. But, don’t get me wrong I LOVE photos too.

What I like about looking at my souvenirs is that I remember different things like the smell, temperature, humidity, and what I was thinking about at the time! Sometimes I give a stone or a shell to a friend, like a little rock from volcanic Hawaii or a little stone from Rome. It is such a lovely gift and for me, they are the very best souvenirs. I have to mention that I have them in a glass bowl here and there and I touch and hold them from time to time. The best thing is the smell, they can smell for years, Crazy? Jup! and Lovely? Jup!

Today you get a little peek into my art sketch book. I keep it for testing colours,
