Behind the Scene

A peep behind the scenes. It is time to introduce you to Gerry

In 2015 Gerry and I started this blog and in 2017 we held the first painting classes in Vence in France. Gerry looks after the catering and I am teaching. Everything else we do together. Gerry is Irish and currently lives in Dublin, and before that he lived on the Cote d’Azur, not far from Vence, for over 20 years, so he knows the area very well. He speaks fluent French and understands French culture. He has discovered the best restaurants, the best wines to buy, all the museums to visit, the national parks and the all about the villages in the alps that are just fantastic to visit but are not found in the standard guide books. Gerry knows all and all the things you only discover if you actually live there.

For example, if you are in Antibes there are two restaurants that he recommends (and I love, love them too), The Brulot (not to be confused with the Brulot Pizza) and the Le Michaelangelo. Both are away from the places tourists will usually go, so you won’t find them by accident, but they are very popular with the locals because they do excellent food at a very reasonable price. (But! Look at this  and see all the famous people that come to Le Michaelangelo

Another favorite is a beach restaurant in Juan les Pins where you can sit with your bare feet in the golden sands with the gentle waves lapping on the beach just a few feet away and watch the sunset over the Mediterranian and the Esterelle hills behind. It is a truly spectacular event.

There is one thing you maybe didn’t know about me and that is that I am dyslexic and terrible at spelling, and Gerry has to correct all of my English. Dyslexia has its advantages and disadvantages. Like I sometimes have to count on fingers and don’t know left from right. But, the good things about being dyslexic are, I am an entrepreneurial, creative, artistic, adventurer.  (Of course, you can be creative without being dyslexic).

Gerry and I are planning a backpacking tour in South East Asia next year. This is the dream of my lifetime. If you have tips for Asia? please let us know where you have been and where you would love to go. I would love to hold courses somewhere in S.E Asia, in the mountains or near the rain forest or right beside the beach. Would you come? Should we look for places to hold a painting class?

Best Regards Magny and Gerry.⠀

  1. For tips on backpacking, I would recommend two blogs written by two couples who have been on the road for many years since their retirement. Alisonanddon.com and seniornomads.com
