Winsor & Newton Cotman Watercolor Paint Set, Field Pocket Set
Hello
If you are here it may be because you have followed me and got a notice on a new post in your mail, I have had a break from the blog like most of us 2020 was a big change, the focus went elsewhere and I got new things that occupied me, I have been learning 3D modeling and the artwork of a gamer, yea I have been drawn into gaming design. I absolutely love it. But, I love drawing and painting and I do miss blogging and building this blog, so here I am back from the rabbit hole. I may show some of the 3D work or other things I have done recently. I hope you continue following me, let me know if you are still here or if you are new here a big hello to you.
This box this little imprecise box is something that I had looked at for many years before I got it. To me, it looks so genius. I am not paid to do blogging for W&N so I can be honest about this paint set, and tell you that I changed all the colors in the box. I got the box for a good price somewhere. I hesitated for the set is Winsor & Newton Cotman Water Colours (Amazon.com) and the Cotman is not Winsor & Newton artist colors, sins I am an artist and over the years have had all the colors I need for a long time I don’t supply with student colors.
The set contains a pocket brush, an artists’ sponge, a 35ml capacity water bottle, and a clip-on water container. And it folds up to this little box. The colors are 14 Cotman Water Color half pans: Cadmium Yellow Pale Hue, Cadmium Yellow Hue, Cadmium Red Pale Hue, Alizarin Crimson Hue, Ultramarine, Cobalt Blue Hue, Viridian Hue, Sap Green, Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, Chinese White.
On the Winsor & Newton web page, they say this bout their colors in the box: “Cotman Water Colours are a range of watercolors that are made to our normal high-quality standards but costs are kept to an economical level by replacing some of the more costly pigments with less expensive alternatives.”
So I don’t say they are bad or useless, I only say I have hundreds of tubs of higher quality watercolors, so I use a knife and flip the color out and fill them with my favorite colors. And the box is a fantastic little thing.
If painting watercolor is new to you and you do not have a set, you can get this one and when the color is empty you can fill it up again. You get liquid watercolors from a tube and you fill it in a pan and let it dry. it can take from 1 to 10 days to let it settle. The colors are sold separately in pans so you can also get the same color as you had or get it from a different brand, for they are often close to the same size.
Here you see the colors I added in, I spent a bit of time on it and aimed at having colors that will help me get the biggest range of colors I like and use. Something that has taken me a long time to understand is that Field Boxes like this one are made for painting outside and for painting nature. And I like to paint everywhere and love painting people too. So my color choice for the box may not be for you,
