Dublin is famous for its lively pubs, and it’s no wonder that the city attracts both locals and tourists looking to experience Irish pub culture. I from Norway and have been to visit Dublin many ( lots of) times and these pubs are my recommendations for first-time visitors.

If you have little time in Ireland or it is one of your first times in Dublin these pubs will be like an injection into Irish culture. There will be lots of travelers in some of these pubs, there will be great music and charming bartenders with lots of Irish humor.  What I love the most is the electric atmosphere, where everybody seems to be so happy.

Here are some of the best pubs in Dublin that you absolutely should visit:

1. The Temple Bar: This iconic pub is located in the heart of the Temple Bar district and is known for its vibrant atmosphere and extensive selection of Irish beers and whiskey. With live music every evening, and maybe in the daytime.  it’s a perfect place to enjoy a pint and soak up the authentic Irish vibe. I brought my mom here it was 3 o’clock and after an absolutely amazing hour with Irish music and some paints, all worries and sorrows were washed away.

2. The Oliver St John Gogarty´s bar: This is one of my favorite pubs. This is another great pub located in the heart of the Temple Bar district with fun guaranteed every day of the week. This pub means a lot to me for many reasons.

3. The Brazen Head: As Dublin’s oldest pub, established in 1198, The Brazen Head boasts a rich history and a charming ambiance. Here, you can enjoy traditional Irish food and live folk music, all while sitting in a historic setting.

4. O’Neill’s: Located near Trinity College, O’Neill’s is a large pub with a cozy atmosphere. It’s known for its good pub food and live music, making it a popular choice among both students and tourists.  In 1988 I stayed In Dublin for 4 weeks, I had my first Hot whiskey / hot toddy: Lemon, 3 cloves, sugar, hot water, and whisky. Hot whiskey is Lovely on a cold day.

5. The Stag’s Head: This traditional pub with a rich history was established first as a tavern in 1780, and a pub in 1894.  Now features a unique Victorian style and is known for its beautiful interiors and to be the first pub in Dublin to have electric light. Everything here is of authentic Victorian origin. The Stag’s Head offers a varied selection of drinks and is a great place to unwind after a long day of sightseeing. The best part and near to a secret about this pub is the second floor where every Tuesday they hold ukulele jamming.  You can borrow a ukulele or sing along. To me, this place is a true balm for the soul.

6. L. Mulligan Grocer: is a well-known pub in Dublin, Ireland, located in the Stoneybatter area. This pub has a rich history dating back to 1782 and is famous for its traditional atmosphere and authentic Irish pub experience.

The pub offers a diverse selection of craft beers, including many from local breweries, as well as a solid range of whiskies. The interior is cozy and inviting, featuring dark wood and traditional details that create a nostalgic feel. L. The pub is in a Victorian style dated 1886, it showcases stunning architecture and has retained much of its original charm. The pub is known for its warm and welcoming atmosphere, making it a popular spot for both locals and tourists. The service is just as lovely as the place.

Inside the Pub, you’ll find intricately designed woodwork, gas lamps, whiskey barrels, tea drawers, stained glass windows, and traditional snugs, it is very relaxing. Its rich history and friendly ambiance make Ryan’s Victorian Pub a must-visit destination for anyone exploring the city. It is located near Phoenix Park. If you are here only for some days,  I say “Grab a taxi “,  to me this is one of The most beautiful pubs in Dublin
